109F!!

The temperature today reached as high as 90+ with a RealFeel of 109F and maybe even a higher humidex. It was so hot that the asphalts on the streets melted, revealing how THINLY spread they were on CONCRETE! This was the worst area I saw. (Above: Corner Burgos and Sto. Nino Sts.)

The asphalt stick to the tires, and is spread to the other streets.

Corner Zamora St.

As you can see, vehicles seem to be almost bumping into one another. There is no traffic lights, most of the time the police are just standing around, even when the traffic becomes confusing. Imagine this full of vehicles which it often is during workdays. But to my knowledge, there has been no accidents here. Drivers drive by feel.

Street Scene Series: Pedicab 2

I had to run out of Gloria Jean's Coffeeshop to take this photo. Young teens collecting scrap metal and holding up traffic. Not that there was any :-)

Street Scene Series: Jeepney

Following this annoying jeepney that would suddenly stop and then move, then snake around trying to pick up passengers.. trying to race me, as if I would pick up its passengers. A perpetual complaint of drivers here.

For those not in the know: a jeepney is a public transport in the Philippines.

Street Scene Series: Road signs

This is at the busy junction where a city road meets a provincial highway: So the Tanduay sign (an ad for a local cheap rum) is saying: To San Juanico Bridge --> which is not where I'm going.
